I am someone that loves dissecting interior design.
I love seeing what is new.
I love being shocked by seeing a style re-emerge that I thought was long gone.
I love seeing how interior trends evolve and move like a big wave of change.
It is endlessly interesting why we grab hold onto some looks and leave others.
When it comes to trends I’ve learned to ‘never say never.’ What I think is hideous today, may be my absolute favorite thing in five years time.

1. What is a Trend?
The way that I talk about trends comes from observations and a curiosity point of view. I still love some of these looks, however I am commenting on what I’ve noticed we’re fatigued by.
I guess this is one way to say…
Don’t listen to me.
If you love a look in your home that feels good for you, suits your lifestyle and the architecture of your home then by all means, keep it for as long as you like. This is not a list of all of the things that need to go in the bin.
However, if you think you are immune to being influenced by trends then perhaps we have a different understanding of what a trend is. Because we are ALL influenced by the culture. We consume content, watch Netflix, scroll on social media and live in the world. All of these things and more influence how we live, which directly relates to interior design trends.
Across the world there has been a cost of living crisis, wars, elections and so the idea of comfort seems to be just what we need right now. Would you agree? When we look at the Pantone Colour of the Year, it speaks directly to this.
So my point is, trends are everywhere. We are all absorbing trends, it just depends where we sit on the bell curve. I’ve noticed that those that say that they don’t follow trends, are usually late majority or laggards. They don’t usually jump on as an early adopter, and so they believe that they are not following the trends.

It is a particular skill for those predict what the next trend will be. I spoke to Sarah Ellison on my podcast Design Anatomy. She was the style editor at Real Living magazine and she always had the ability predict a look before the rest of us caught on. It was a great discussion and I got to ask her all of these questions I’ve thought about for years!
2. Pantone Colour of the Year 2025: Mocha Mousse
The Pantone colour of the year is a colour that speaks to this moment in time. It is not chosen on a whim, instead the culture influences how the colour is chosen.
