I'm calling it: the Sofa of the Year
It's relaxed, pillow-y whilst chic and sophisticated. It's the Solar Sofa
I know we’re only half-way through 2024 and we haven’t even seen the new releases at 3 Days of Design yet. But when you see it, you know.
The Solar sofa by Faye Toogood for Tacchini was released at the Milan Design Week in April. It captures the mood of a covid-hangover of netflix binges, sprawling day naps and cosy days spent enjoying home comforts. This is casual elegance at it’s best.
This is not the kind of sofa for a formal uptight room, save this one to enjoy in the tv snug. The Solar is about softness and comfort, it’s not pretentious or formal.

The pillow stacked structure recalls low-slung sofas we saw in the 1970s. It’s made for relaxation. The fabric crinkles, it’s not about looking ‘perfect’ instead it’s welcoming you to just ‘be’.
The satin upholstery was exciting to see on show in Milan, as we haven’t seen shiny fabrics for a while. It elevates this relaxed piece, whilst the linen upholstery feels more down-to-earth.

This is Faye Toogood. She works with her sister Erica and their team of architects, sculptors, furniture makers and illustrators in their London studio. It’s been really exciting to see the abundance of incredible work released for various brands recently.
So yeah, I’m calling it. Could this be the sofa of 2024? What do you think?
